Faculty positions at International Center for Isotope Effect Research, Nanjing University: 1) enzymatic mechanisms and 2) computation at the quantum or complex-system levels

Stable isotope effects are often used to reveal enzymatic reaction pathways at the molecular level in biochemical, physiological, and microbial processes. The research lays the foundation for medical diagnosis and treatment as well as for environmental monitoring and clean-up.

Mechanistic interpretation of observed isotope effects can be achieved at the quantum chemistry level. Meanwhile, an apparent isotope fractionation for a complex process can ideally be reduced to a set of interacting, intrinsic isotope effects at elementary steps.

We at International Center for Isotope Effect Research (ICIER) directed by Huiming Bao (鲍惠铭) (www.icier-nju.org) are seeking to fill four or more tenure-tracked or tenured faculty positions in the above-mentioned two general research areas: 1) probing enzymatic mechanisms using stable isotopes, often in natural abundances; and 2) computational and theoretical analysis of isotope effects in diverse natural and man-made processes. Salary, benefit, and start-up package are highly competitive.

ICIER is a cross-discipline and cross-college research center in Nanjing University (NJU). ICIER assembles and creates synergy among faculty members jointly appointed with individual colleges and schools in NJU, including but not limited to Earth Sciences and Geology Engineering, Planetary Sciences, Geography and Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Medicine, and Life Sciences. Graduate students will obtain their MSc or PhD degrees from individual schools/colleges. The core of ICIER is a shared interest in stable isotope effects at molecular level. ICIER has its own office-laboratory suite that is equipped with state-of-art facilities. Both Chinese and English are ICIER’s working languages. International applicants are highly encouraged. Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province, one of the most economically developed regions in today’s China. The city has also been the capital of many dynasties in ancient China.

Applicants please send your curriculum vitae, a statement of your research and teaching interests, and the names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses of at least three references to Dr. Xiaobin Cao (曹晓斌) (xiaobincao@nju.edu.cn). The positions are open until filled, but applications will be given the first-round consideration in late December, 2021.
